Superhero movies, capitalism

Just finished watching Spiderman Homecoming, and Jesus Christ, Tony Stark is one heartless corporate asshole.

The entire thing would have been solved before beginning if the had just financially compensated the cleanup guys.

If you're a fucking billionaire you could start financing some houses and free people from having to pay rent, you know? Or pay DECENT FUCKING WAGES TO YOUR EMPLOYEES.

Which takes me to the beginning of this post. Maybe the reason kids love superhero movies is because they want to prove themselves to the grown ups, like Pete was trying to do?

Adults aren't trying to prove themselves to anyone - we just want to get rid of this bullshit and try to live a life without the constant threat of getting kicked out of the fucking house.

For starters, I say we need a working class superhero who isn't a corporate bootlicker.

But there are no superheroes. We have nobody but ourselves. ✊

@yuki superman was originally a defender of the working class. he’s obviously a far cry from that now, but the original superman stories about beating up standover men, robber barrons, union busters and the KkK would be failry subversion content by today’s standards

@yuki i might actually have brain damage my typing is that bad- sorry.

@yuki stark probably is a heartless bastard, and homecoming is a very flawed story. charitibly- tony stark wasn’t aware of the details of that operation and who felt slighted by what, and is merely part of an oppressive system of corporation-the tradeoffs of operating at corporate scale is decisions become impersonal and dehumanising. the banality of evil is systems that turn people into line items.
stark’s tragic flaw is he wants to not be evil but he can’t help it

@yuki also… wasn't Pepper CEO at that point?
maybe pepper's the heartless bastard.

@yuki How about The Flying Squirrel, she came from the great depression working class. Though her "Boss" The Red Panda (secretly one of Toronto's wealthiest men) tends to be the more radical one!

I soooo enjoy the cheesiness of The Red Panda Adventures: decoderringtheatre.com/shows/r

Or there's this crowdfund: kickstarter.com/projects/aubre

@yuki I'll add that I haven't seen Spiderman Homecoming. I (perhaps unfairly) gave up on watching any new Spiderman movies after The Amazing, though I hear Into The Spiderverse is good.

And now I've again (again perhaps unfairly) given up on Hollywood entirely after finding audio shows I generally like better!

@alcinnz
wait wait wait - audio shows???

🤔

I'm interested in this. Mind making a separate thread?

Those Beef Broz sounds cool AF. Unfortunately they're too manly for me LOL 😅
