Materialist Koan

One day, one of the master's disciples came back to the temple after a long journey. The disciple said: Master, in my latest travel I met a man who was obsessed with money.

"And what did your do?" the master asked.

"I explained to him that money can't buy happiness."

"Give me your hand," asked the master. The disciple obeyed, only to have a splinter inserted in his finger.

"Ow!!! My finger!" shouted the disciple, "Master, why did you do that?"

"Before I explain, go to the nearest town and get that splinter removed."

"But master, the doctors are very expensive there! Where will I find the money?"

"Money," replied the master, "does not buy happiness."

And the disciple was enlightened.
