A: Because otherwise it would be confusing. Q: Why do questions always come before answer?
Hey #Fediverse. When you post pictures, please please please with puppies on top fill in that description box for the visually impaired. You will be helping us out tremendously. We want to enjoy your pictures as much as others do. You don't have to write a novel, but just fill in some details.
Thanks with much love:

“If you want a world that isn’t run by very large, rich corporations, you may not want them hosting your data.” Wise words from @webarchcoop @outlandish @casacowork @_Happy_Dev_ @minds in today’s Times https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/business/don-t-want-to-give-google-your-data-time-to-co-operate-h5rrtn0jj #opencoop
Advice sought - looking for a projector. Short throw, probably need 3000 Lumens for use during the day, 1024x768 minimum, prefer 1280x1024. Not sure I can drive with Bluetooth or WiFi, probably need SVGA (or whatever). HDMI might not be possible.
Recommendations? Warnings? Expectations for price?
All feedback welcome - thanks.
Self hosted social media is still a very new concept, so it’s taking time for the larger internet to become familiar with it. Once it happens, it’s a no brainer.
Once people realize they don’t have to rely on any of the Big Names to provide online services, it will change. There’s just a lot of caution because quite a few people have built their livelyhood using these places.
But it’s going to happen. It’s inevitable. When better solutions become available, people will find them eventually.
My phone said it wasn't raining, but I looked outside and it was. One of the few times windows proved better than Android.
And I know that #whatsapp is proprietary, but the alternatives aren't great either. Signal has a very weird understanding of open source, and doesn't even let #fdroid distribute their app. Telegram has a proprietary server, and normal chats aren't end to end encrypted. Matrix.org is great for group chats, but it really doesn't work well for 1-on-1 chats. Other apps that I know of just aren't mature enough (often having terrible UX).
If you know any other alternative, I'd love to hear about it.
If you know someone who wants to make the switch, here are some resources to help them:

Hmm... has Twitter's policy changed with regards to *deleting* one's own account (as opposed to simply deactivating it)?
I am pretty certain I pressed the big red "Delete" button about a month and a half ago (i.e. more than the advertised 30 days before deletion), but having accidentally relogged into my account (thanks to my password manager...), I see my account still lives! ffs!
I can't seem to be able to double check anything without "reactivating the account" and cancelling the period.
At last, a full end-to-end test suite is growing for E2E encryption (starting with Riot/Web) as we hunt down any/all remaining E2E bugs in our quest to turn it on by default... https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-react-end-to-end-tests/pull/6
