@fobo That could be it. Construction not only disturbs the "native" soil but can involve bringing in fill from elsewhere. You could always get a couple of soil Ph testing kits from the garden store and know for sure. :) I imagine if the vegetation were the right types and dense enough, you'd be able to see the line where the boundary is sharpest.
@snoot Interesting! It is in a parking lot, so I wonder if there's weirdness in the soil. I noted that the tree to the south has all white flowers, while the two trees to the north have pink. They're all separated by about 40 feet.
