The first video recording known
Everyone knows about VCRs, and that the dawn of video recording lay in the 1950s, with the first videotape systems from Ampex, right?
Behold, the Silvatone Souvenir, which recorded on 78rpm 7" aluminium discs. It was intended simply for audio, but as the Baird 30-line broadcasts of the time *were* basically audio, it could be used to record those video signals.
And so, the earliest video recording is of "Looking In", a revue show, from April 21 1933. The quality *is* very low indeed, but once you're aware of what's being shown, it does make visual sense.
