The eighth annual international Gender Census 2021 is now open until 10th March!

It's for anyone whose genders (or lack thereof) aren't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and the results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy.

Good morning from the UK! The survey has been open for about 13 hours and we just hit 5,000 responses! 🚀

Almost 7,000 participants now, and I've pulled together a spreadsheet so that you call can see how it's going and to compare to the response rate from previous years!

We're only two days in so the line is very short, but - it's the red one on the left.

✨🌟 10,000! 🌟✨

We hit 10,000 responses about 24 hours after the survey opened!

It's the morning of day 3, and I haven't updated the participation spreadsheet yet but we're up to 13,000 responses. :)

We hit 21,000 responses just before midnight. It's now 10 minutes into day 5 and there's a reasonable chance we'll beat last year's record today. It's not even been a week!

It's not quite noon on day 5, and we just went over 23,000. That's 1,458 left to beat last year's record.

Well, we broke 2020's record of 24,350 responses sometime around 10pm on day 5, which took over a month last year. :D

Here's how things looked at the end of day 6 with >28,000 responses!

I am genuinely quite nervous that I'll run out of space on this Google Sheet...

It's day 11, and yesterday was a slow day, only ~750 responses. So today we're almost at 38,000, which is still SO MANY!!

As always, any link-sharing you can do outside of social media is super helpful, as is sharing here on Twitter or on Facebook.

Things have calmed down a little bit now, as you can see from the attached graphs. We're just heading towards 39,000 in a leisurely manner.

Public spreadsheet:

Take the survey:

(39,000! That's so many!)

It's day 20, we're well over halfway through, and a couple of days ago we went over 41,000 responses. :) We're getting 200-300 entries per day, still. Not too shabby!

The survey:

The participation tracker:

Hello! :) There's fewer than 200 participants until we get to 42,000 - I reckon we'll get to that milestone today. I will update the participation spreadsheet in a few minutes.

The survey:

There are just three days to go on the Gender Census, and here's where we're at:

- 43,000 participants 😲
- 12% are age 31+
- 68% are from Tumblr, Twitter or Discord

Can you share the survey link anywhere new, or with people over the age of 25?

holy cow, that is *impressive*

it's been really cool to see over the past few years just how much this thing just /keeps growing!/

@certifiedperson Not gonna lie, I'm a little bit worried that I might have to beef up my computer to deal with the huge spreadsheet situation, I'm already using up almost two thirds of Google Sheets' 5,000,000 cell limit...!

Oof yeah that is a *lot*, wow! I hope any upgrading you need to do goes smoothly ♡

@gendercensus I'm still willing to help with the technical aspects of processing the data if spreadsheets turn out to be not viable anymore. Or if they still are and a little bit of external processing is needed.

@madewokherd Thank you, very kind! :) I'm not really sure what I'll do yet - I still have about 27% of my allotted cells on Google Sheets, and if necessary I can split it into one spreadsheet per question! But ultimately I think I just need to find a good statistics program and then (oh no the hard part) learn how to use it...

@gendercensus I've done some work with gnuplot, maybe that could work? Or not specialized enough?

@madewokherd I am kind of in a place right now where I don't even know enough to know how specialised I need something to be, and I've never heard of gnuplot! Anyway, it's on the back-burner - when I need help I will post here probably. :)
