If you try to convince me that adblocking is against my own interests in the way that many have before, what you might not fully understand is that I *do not care* if the entire commercial web goes belly-up. It'll be a blessing if it ever does, and couldn't happen too soon.
This is not just me getting tired of annoying ads, this is a rational and premeditated decision that I'm not going back on. Fuck advertising.
@allison also he asked about preferred name and didn't misgender so I suppose on balance it's fine
my main personal website is very much a "personal #brand" kinda thing because I use it to market myself (career focused) and i'm debating whether to change that to more of an Actually Personal thing rather than "a bunch of tech tutorials and a resume"
like, i feel like I'm pretty established at my company so I could get away with it now
Corporations having a total chokehold on the net is a terrifying prospect, and yet it happened with Facebook. It did everything, it was convienient, useful, and is now totally monopolistic. Much unlike the more human but heavy effort requirements of early web goodies. There needs to be a human, but easy-to-use alternative to high-effort internetting, and i feel the fediverse with its hosting options (so long as they don't start taking power from instance admins and users) is a good start
