@trwnh I agree that there's no *pro*-capitalist left. There's a libertarian left that is pro-*market* but anti-capitalist (#C4SS etc). There's a pragmatic social democratic left who accept capitalism (like Hillary) as the "lesser of 2 evils". There are another bunch of left liberals who prefer to avoid arguing about abstractions like "capitalism" and focus on bread-and-butter labour and green like #ZeroHourContracts or #MassExtinction (1/2) ...
@PaladinQuinn

@trwnh there are pro-capitalist liberals (the ones who have appropriated the name "libertarians" but are more accurately "propertarians"), who are not part of the left, but who the left can work with on some issues. Mainly issues that involve resisting the "state" facet of capitalism, rather than the "corporate" facet; campaigns against mass surveillance, drug prohibition, imperialist war, voter suppression, and so on. #MargaretKilljoy explains this well:

@strypey people like hillary aren't leftist in the slightest. the definition of "leftist" includes anticapitalism pretty much everywhere in the world except for the us. in the 1700s the left-right divide was between radicals and monarchists. this developed into the division between "progress" and "order". liberals like hillary are clearly right-wing and seek to preserve the existing order. diversity in the seats of power is irrelevant when the seats of power should be abolished.

@strypey largely, social democracy is more like the nordic model of welfare-statism, i.e. the state should strive to ameliorate the effects of capitalism (but not actually end capitalist exploitation). us democrats and liberals aren't even in that camp fully; new-deal liberals are a minority reformist camp within the democratic party, but even new-deal liberals are in essence seeking to preserve capitalism by preventing its internal rot and collapse. fdr himself wanted to neuter socialism.

@trwnh I wasn't saying Hillary is a leftist (I agree she's nothing of the sort), but that some leftists consider her, like capitalism, the lesser of two evils.

@PaladinQuinn I don't see how this is a hot or even mild take. It's basically a fact, isn't it?
